Bouygues Telecom, Free and Orange put 17 billion euros on the table to buy SFR together

Bouygues Telecom, Free and Orange have just announced that they have submitted a non-binding joint offer for “the acquisition of a part of Altice’s telecommunications activities” in France. An offer that aims to consolidate a mature market, which will therefore once again place the market in the hands of three main players.

Through a joint press release, three operators, Bouygues Telecom, Free-Groupe Iliad and Orange, announced their official intention to buy “a large part of the telecommunications activities” of Altice in France, better known to the general public under the SFR brand.

The three operators present a joint non-binding offer that refers to “a total amount of 17 billion euros of enterprise value for the assets” of the Altice group in France.

The distribution of price and value is also already established. It would be 43% for Bouygues Telecom, 30% for Free and 27% for Orange. The historic player, dominant in the market, probably cannot grow too much.

Bouygues Telecom, the free group Iliad and Orange plan to divide their activities into three blocks.

  • B2C activity, generally public, will be shared between Bouygues Telecom, Free-Groupe Iliad and Orange.
  • The B2B activity would be assumed mainly by Bouygues Telecom and Free.
  • Finally, the other assets and resources (including, among other things, infrastructure and frequencies, an element of capital), would be distributed among the three actors, “with the exception of the SFR mobile network in non-dense areas, which would be absorbed by Bouygues Telecom,” the statement details.
