Five months after its launch, Veo 3 receives a first update. While OpenAI’s Sora 2 is making waves and has been available since September 30, Google has announced some new features for its video generator that was already impressive with its capabilities. With Veo 3.1, the company promises a better ability to faithfully track queries and better audiovisual quality by transforming images into video.
In addition to greater realism, this update would offer better narrative control and richer audio. New features also available in Google’s AI-powered Flow filmmaking tool.
Between rich functions…
The big news in Veo 3.1 is the addition of audio to existing functions, allowing the AI model to generate video and audio simultaneously from still images. It also offers more user control in Flow, especially with “Frames to Video.” With this feature, you can provide a starting image and an ending image for the production tool to generate a seamless video by connecting the two.
You’ll also be able to change the look and feel of a scene using “Video Ingredients,” giving you the ability to submit up to three images, including characters, objects, and a location for Flow to combine to create a scene “that matches your expectations.”
Finally, Veo 3.1 will allow you to extend scenes with “Extend”. This function will use the last second of the original clip to generate a new video. Users will be able to “create longer videos, one minute or more, that join and expand on the action of their original clip.”
…and new skills
In addition to these three audio-enriched features, Veo 3.1 introduces new editing capabilities directly into Flow. The first allows you to add new elements to scenes. “Flow now handles complex details like shadows and scene lighting, making the addition natural,” Google promises.
With the second, it will soon be possible to remove objects or characters from a scene without problems, according to the company, because Flow will reconstruct the background and environment “making it appear as if the object was never there.”
Veo 3.1 is now available in the Gemini app, as well as Vertex AI for Enterprise and Developer API.
