Almost 15 years after his death, Steve Jobs will have a one dollar coin with his image. On October 15, the United States Mint, the independent government agency responsible for the production and circulation of U.S. coins, unveiled the design of the four coins in its 2026 innovation program.
The co-founder of Apple, best known for launching the iPhone in 2007, is one of the innovators and innovations that have the honor of appearing on these coins. Among the four selected states, Steve Jobs will represent California, where he was born and where Apple’s headquarters are also located.
A man who embodies innovation
The piece shows the former CEO of Apple, sitting in front of a typical landscape of the north of the state, with hills covered in oak trees. He wears a turtleneck, his stylistic trademark. “His posture and expression, captured in a moment of reflection, show how this environment inspired his vision of transforming complex technology into something as intuitive and organic as nature itself,” the US Mint said.
A work that is accompanied, among other things, by the mention “Make Something Wonderful”, title of the posthumous compilation of Steve Jobs’ words published in 2023.
Steve Jobs was nominated by California Governor Gavin Newsom to be honored as part of the United States Mint program last February. “Innovation and California are synonymous, and Steve Jobs perfectly embodies the unique spirit of innovation that drives California: innovation that is not just driven by business, but aims to change the world forever,” the governor said in a statement.
Gavin Newsom also recalled another great success of Steve Jobs besides Apple: Pixar. He also co-founded what is now known as a large animated film production company, but which, in its beginnings, specialized in IT.
The coin with his image will be available next year at a price of $13.25.
