Samsung is already looking beyond its XR headphones and confirms that it is working on smart glasses

During the last minutes of its conference, Samsung gave a small preview of its future connected glasses. If there is no release date for the moment, the truth is that they will address those of Meta.

Galaxy XR, Samsung’s first XR headset, was the star of the company’s event on October 21. He dedicated almost an hour to this long-awaited new product, presented as “the first to be born in a category of devices that natively integrate AI.” And the South Korean manufacturer reviewed the other members of this category, taking advantage of the last minutes of its event to talk about the connected glasses it is working on.

“We are very excited about the AI glasses that we are currently developing with Google (…) We are working with two of the most innovative brands in the field of glasses, Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, to offer new devices adapted to your lifestyle,” revealed Jay Kim, head of customer experience at Samsung.

Few details, but desire for daily integration.

The company gave very few details about this future product, concluding its event with a video of a few seconds to offer a small preview. It suggests that the glasses will be useful in everyday life, in the office, on a bicycle or even at the airport. They could provide information based on the environment, showing, for example, the speed when the user pedals or the departure time of their plane when they are at the airport.

In a press release, Samsung also indicates that it is collaborating with Google and Warby Parker to “imagine stylish glasses and create an exceptional user experience.” On the other hand, its partnership with Gentle Monster would allow it to offer “glasses that combine AI with cutting-edge design,” the manufacturer declared without going into further details.

One thing seems certain: the glasses will be based on Android XR. Developed in partnership with Google and Qualcomm, this platform puts AI at the center of the experience. Based on the Galaxy XR, according to Samsung, it is “designed to fit different products, from headphones to glasses.”

In collaboration with the South Korean manufacturer on this project, Google has already offered a preview of its own connected glasses powered by AI. During its annual developers conference, the American giant announced that they will work together with the smartphone so that the user can access applications without having to take it out of their pocket.

They will also be equipped with Gemini to help them perform various tasks. AI will also allow the glasses to see and hear what the user does. Finally, they should be able to display useful information when necessary thanks to a display integrated into the lens, which will be available as an option. But, at the moment, we do not know when these glasses will be marketed, both from Google and Samsung. This gives Meta a little breathing space to develop its offering.
