Social tension is rising in China. In various Chinese cities, hundreds of people protested against the central state’s policy to combat the Covid-19 epidemic. Extremely rare in this authoritarian country, the protest is gaining momentum, fueled in particular by social media. But on Twitter it’s hard to find out about the situation because searches for big cities (in Chinese characters) are drowned in an automatic torrent of ads of all kinds, mainly escort girl ads, online games and even online games of pornographic images. .
As several China watchers point out, this isn’t the first time such posts have appeared for these Chinese-language searches, but their number has literally skyrocketed in the last 24 hours. Many accounts – real or fake – of these call girls had been inactive for years before suddenly waking up amid social protest.
By closely studying the tweets and accounts, an analyst was able to confirm the massive increase in these posts, which appear every few seconds. According to The Washington Post, Twitter was “aware” of the situation and “working to resolve it.” Except that the social network, taken with an iron fist by Elon Musk, has practically no more moderation teams…
