Energy consumption: the EcoWatt application crosses one million downloads

The application wants to give “the weather forecast for electricity” informing about the voltage level of the French electrical network.

The EcoWatt application is gaining followers. Its number of downloads has just crossed the million download barrier, this Monday, December 5. The night before, this figure was still only 700,000.

Launch eco-gestures

While the risk of power outages appears to be decreasing, consumers appear to be concerned about the state of the French grid. With EcoWatt, the operator of the French electricity network RTE (Red de transporte de electricity) offers to follow the state of national consumption.

The objective is to be able to alert users in case of tension in the network. Thus, depending on the three levels of alert (green, orange and red), households are invited to implement the eco-gestures that are reminded within the application. These outage risks are indicated in the form of a three-day forecast, hence its nickname “electrical weather.”

Available October 19, it took a few days for interest to show up. On December 2, 300,000 downloads had allowed the application to propel itself to the top of the Google Play Store and Apple App Store rankings.

RTE does not plan to improve or develop EcoWatt. The simplicity of the tool was sought even by the manager of the French electrical network. Thus, for people who want more information about electricity consumption, it will be necessary to resort to eCO2mix. This application allows you to check the status of the electrical network at the scale of a region or a metropolis.
