It’s time for sobriety at Google. The US technology giant has indicated that it is in the process of implementing two new tools for Google Chrome, its internal web browser, CNBC reports this Friday, December 8. These two features, which should be rolled out in the coming weeks, will make Google Chrome consume less power and memory.
In detail, Chrome will automatically switch to “Power Saving” mode to extend battery life if the battery reaches 20% or the laptop is unplugged from the power outlet. To do this, this tool will automatically decrease background activities and drastically limit the visual effects in the browser. Actually, this power saver is not entirely unknown because, in fact, it is already integrated, but not activated by default, in the Google web browser since the Chrome 108 update. Available from the end of November.

Google is also rolling out “Memory Saver” mode. This setting is for people who have many tabs open at the same time. When the “Memory save” mode is activated, priority is given to the tabs actually used by the Internet user. Chrome thus frees up memory for inactive tabs that can be immediately reloaded when needed.
According to Google, this new feature allows Chrome to use up to 30% less memory. Result: navigation becomes more fluid. An icon in the upper right corner of Chrome will indicate the space freed up by Memory Saver.
