What are the “gold” badges that have appeared on certain Twitter accounts?

The social network has finally relaunched its premium Twitter Blue subscription, leading to the appearance of new badges.

Unsurprisingly, the Twitter Blue subscription program, sought after by Elon Musk, is back online. After a failed attempt in November, the social network kingpin revived the idea: $7 a month (or $11 from an Apple device) to get the blue account certification badge.

But since the first attempt had ended in dismal failure: thousands of users had impersonated existing accounts and sometimes mistaken their identities, Twitter had to revise its copy.

This is the reason why new badges appeared this Monday. The “gold” badge is associated with businesses and is currently being rolled out.

Soon, the gray badges will be associated with government accounts.

The blue badges will eventually go to Twitter Blue members. A way for the social network to avoid confusion between the different entities.
