Since November 2020, WhatsApp has introduced messages that fade after a certain amount of time. From now on, the messaging application from the Meta group (Facebook, Instagram) wants to make sent texts disappear as soon as you read them.
Following fleeting conversations
At least that’s what the WABetaInfo site, detected by Mashable, explains. This feature is available in version 2.22.25.20 of the Android app. It resumes the principle of sending “single use” photos or videos. Available from summer 2021, the “view once” option, symbolized by a “1” logo, allows a file to disappear after the recipient has opened it.
By applying it to messages, WhatsApp adds to the possibilities offered by ephemeral conversations. This setting automatically deletes shipping history that is older than seven days. Since then, it is possible to configure this option to stale messages after 24 hours or 90 days.
Single messages are currently under development and can only be accessed through the trial version of the Android version of WhatsApp. No indication was given about the rollout of this feature or its compatibility with iOS versions of the app.
