“Dear @TwitterSupport, While we appreciate our excellent bilateral relationship and close alphabetical neighborhood with Nigeria, we would greatly appreciate it if you would tag us Norway.”
The short message on Twitter from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs says a lot about the confusion that can currently reign on the social network.
Because if the account in question still has its blue badge (pending the gray badge meant for governments), it’s also labeled “Nigerian government organization.” Better yet, two leading members of the Norwegian government, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt are also labeled “Nigerians”.
The Twitter dumpling – who still hadn’t repaired his blunder this Tuesday at noon – reminds us that the issue of badges and denominations has been a major source of setbacks since Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter.
Since Monday, the social network has relaunched its Twitter Blue paid subscription program to earn the famous blue badge. All accounts that already have it but don’t want to pay will automatically lose it. At the same time, a gold badge has started to be deployed for companies pending the gray badges.
