On Instagram, he invents a life for a month and fools everyone thanks to AI

For a month on Instagram, the American Kyle Vorbach made his relatives believe that he was going on vacation to New York and leading a dream life, before revealing the deception carried out thanks to artificial intelligence.

Instagram is the showcase of a perfect life that only shows the positive moments and some go further… by inventing a new life thanks to artificial intelligence. That’s what Kyle Vorbach did. On Instagram, he made his loved ones believe for a month that he would go on vacation to New York and lead a life of luxury by posting dream photos.

To do this, this American producer used AI Stable Diffusion that generates realistic images from descriptions without having to bring his camera. Kyle Vorbach started using it in October for his new profile picture.

But he wanted to go further. He then trained the artificial intelligence from a hundred photos of himself and combined photos of Ryan Gosling to make himself look better. He then challenged himself to post photos of an imaginary vacation in New York.

His loved ones were then able to see photos of him in Central Park, eating pizza and even with an imaginary friend generated by artificial intelligence. And the photos turn out to be particularly realistic. He then judges the photos of him to be boring and doesn’t garner enough likes for his liking.

“I felt those endorphins”

Then he invents a new life in Los Angeles, his hometown. Return by plane, purchase of a luxury car, selfie with Ryan Gosling, life in a beautiful apartment, his publications make you dream.

A month later, he reveals everything to his relatives. He explains his approach in a YouTube video as creating this fake life on social media requires a titanic job. He tells the camera that he spent whole nights and days reviewing thousands of images to train the artificial intelligence.

When he reveals the deception to his relatives, they are stunned, but most of all they wonder why he did this. He replies that he wants to show how much a life can be made up on social media and that it can quickly become dangerous to his mental health. “Every time I would get a like on one of these photos, I would feel those endorphins as if it were me. Like someone I knew liked a photo of me,” he admits in the video.

For the entire month that he orchestrated his deception, Kyle Vorbach was at his parents’ house. It’s easy to lie on social media, even if it takes time.
