Twitter removed a feature that featured phone numbers of organizations specializing in, among other things, suicide prevention, said two people familiar with the matter, who said the decision was made by Elon Musk, the social network’s new owner.
The feature, called “#ThereIsHelp,” showcased contacts for organizations that can help people doing research on mental health, HIV, vaccines, sexual exploitation of minors, COVID-19, gender-based violence, natural disasters, or freedom of expression.
Concerns about the well-being of vulnerable users
The removal of this feature, which occurred in recent days, could raise fears about the well-being of vulnerable users of the social network. Neither Twitter nor Elon Musk responded to a request for comment.
Elon Musk announced this Tuesday on Twitter his intention to leave the head of the social network. The owner of the platform had started a poll the day before asking whether or not he should retire from the head of the company, to which 57% of the 17 million voters responded in the affirmative.
