Twitter Blue is starting to show its limits again. Twitter’s paid subscription, relaunched on December 12 after many changes, already seems to show some problems, especially for people who can claim this blue badge.
Hidaytullah Hidayat was able to remarkably benefit from the famous blue tick. However, he is the person in charge of access to information in Afghanistan and, therefore, is part of the Taliban regime.
Twitter Blue is not normally accessible in Afghanistan
A decision that raises questions, especially about how this senior Taliban official was able to benefit from Twitter Blue. Since his return, Twitter Blue is normally only available in five countries in the world: the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand.
Therefore, it was necessary for Hidaytullah Hidayat to use a VPN and/or a billing address in one of these countries. The official, however, claims that he is, in fact, in Afghanistan at the location indicated by him in his Twitter bio.
Twitter indicates in his page dedicated to Twitter Blue that to access the blue tick, the account in question may not present any sign of deception, manipulation or spam. The social network also indicates that each certification is subject to verification by the Twitter teams.
Hidaytullah Hidayat is currently the only member of the Taliban government to benefit from this blue mark.
