Twitter shows recommendations instead of the accounts you follow by default

Twitter has decided to make its recommendations feed your main screen. Now it is necessary to select a specific tab to see the posts of the people followed.

Social media algorithms are increasingly present. They even go so far as to hide posts from your real friends or people you follow. It is in this trend that Twitter seems to have plunged. From now on, the platform will show by default the recommendations that may attract users.

A more intuitive screen

This display change will initially be made to apps running on iOS, the company says. Therefore, iPhone or iPad owners will be the first to see their friends disappear from their feed. This change does not seem to have reached French Internet users for the moment. The web and Android versions are also not affected at this time.

Rest assured, it is still possible to find a classic news feed where only posts (as well as retweets) from followed people will be grouped together. Actually, the new screen will also be more intuitive than the current one.

Today, users can change the way their feed is displayed by clicking on the “stars” icon present at the top right of their app. It is then proposed to opt for recommendations with the option “For you” (inspired by TikTok) or for posts from accounts followed by selecting “The most recent”.

A tab system to choose your thread

The new version of the application sets up a system of directly visible tabs at the top of the application. This makes it easier to switch from a recommended or custom thread.

On the other hand, everything indicates that the default implementation of this screen implies that the recommendations will be the first thing the user will see when opening your application. Currently, preferences chosen via the “stars” icon are stored in memory.
