After the auction of the furniture of your premises, place an auction in the name of the users. Twitter reportedly plans to put underused or unused usernames up for sale, according to the New York Times.
In fact, certain identifiers are highly sought after, such as those that comprise a simple name or word. At the moment there is no indication of what types of identifiers will be auctioned.
1.5 billion usernames to recover?
Elon Musk said a few weeks ago that one of his goals was to remove massive inactive accounts on Twitter, to free up 1.5 billion identifiers.
This auction could eclipse the black markets that have sprung up in recent years to buy and sell the most popular usernames.
It remains to be seen what form this auction could take and especially who would receive the money generated. The most likely would be to see Twitter recoup all the profits. In fact, Elon Musk has shown his ambition for the social network to finally be profitable.
