Some jokes are funnier than others and some are not at all. Corentin Chevrey, known by the pseudonym RocKy, was the victim this Wednesday morning, around 4 in the morning, of a hoax in very bad taste.
The bad prank, called swatting, involves tricking law enforcement into calling you anonymously. The person indicates to the police that an intervention is necessary, generally in a streamer, making believe that a serious event has occurred.
Bac staff mobilized
Corentin Crevrey thus saw 10 police officers arrive at his home, with “shields and assault rifles”, who believed they had found an armed man, ready to shoot and who had slit his girlfriend’s throat, as indicated by the FIFA professional of the Team Vitality on his Twitter account. .
The Doubs police confirmed this misadventure to Parisianstating that the Besançon police station had received “a call from a person posing as the victim (Corentin Chevrey), stating that he had killed his partner and was going to kill anyone who wanted to get close to him”.
Rescue teams from the police, from the Bac (anti-crime brigade) with dog handlers thus appeared at Corentin Chevrey’s house, as well as at his parents’ house. Indeed, the person behind the hoax had told the police the address of this second home. The transmitter’s father did not respond, the door of the latter’s house was broken, RocKy said in his second tweet.
A rare deception in France
The Doubs departmental directorate of public safety specified to the Parisian that officers were still searching for the caller. An investigation has also been opened.
Other French streamers, such as Bibix, Purpledjo, and Sardoche, have also been the victims of this type of prank in the past. But it is above all the American cameramen who have been victims of swatting. It should be noted that the Criminal Code provides for criminal sanctions for the perpetrators of swatting.
Article 226-10 provides for stronger penalties for proven cases of swatting: five years in prison and a fine of 45,000.
