This is not an April Fool. Player Mutekimaru’s YouTube channel is very popular in Japan. In the videos of him he makes his fish play thanks to an ingenious system. On January 15, while he was out and alive, his pez managed to access Nintendo’s online store, make game purchases, and leak his credit card information, CNN reports.
Mutekimaru films his fish Maurice, Moo, and Ponyo playing on the Nintendo Switch. During a break from the youtuber, the game Pokémon Violet crashed and the console returned to the home screen. Live video continued to stream as the fish took control of the device.
The latter have notably managed to change the avatar and the name of the account, connect to the Nintendo Switch store or create a PayPal account. The fish also managed to make game purchases of up to 500 yen (about 3.50 euros) and publicly displayed the player’s credit card information.

Obviously, the fish did not achieve all this alone. The youtuber has imagined a system that detects the movements of the fish so that they can control navigation remotely from their Nintendo Switch. This is what makes his channel popular and attracts a large number of video game enthusiasts.
Technically, the arrows and the letters A and B are represented in the aquarium: a motion sensor follows the fish as they pass each command, to activate it on the game console. A largely random operation, of course.
Viewers were in the thousands to watch the footage at the time of the incident and shared their amusement in the comments. For his part, Mutekimaru contacted Nintendo to request a refund of the involuntary expense and explain the incident.
