More than one in two parents have posted a photo or video of their child on social media. Among them, 91% did so before the age of 5 and 43% at the time of birth. This is revealed by a study of the Observatory of Paternity and Digital Education Posted on February 6, reports franceinfo.
And some go further. In France, 3% of parents, or between 80,000 and 90,000 people, benefit from benefits or earn money by posting photos of their child on social networks. They are nicknamed influential parents.
Among that 3% of influencer parents, almost half even declare that it is their only source of income and 70% admit to earning up to 5,000 euros per month.
But getting the perfect photo or video takes time. Up to an hour of preparation for more than 60% of these parent influencers and requires between one and ten takes. 38% of these influencers post a photo of their child every day. 44% of parents say they have obtained their child’s consent before posting content about them.
Recently supervised practices
“A practice that is gaining momentum”, stresses Thomas Rohmer, founder of the Observatory of fatherhood and digital education on the microphone of franceinfo. It speaks of a confiscation of the right to the image of the child. It is not without risk for children, given the frequency of the publications”. She points out that these practices represent “a psychological burden for children who become responsible for the economic income of the household.”
In 2020, a law was passed to regulate these practices. Break time, consent, parents also have to remove a content if the child asks for it, and part of the money should also go back to the children. The deputy of the majority Bruno Studer presented a bill on January 19 to strengthen the supervision of practices.
