Google presents Bard, a ChatGPT competitor integrated into its search engine

The American company has been testing a technology for several weeks to compete with ChatGPT and its exponential growth. A first version has been presented.

This is a new step in the field of artificial intelligence among the technological giants: the arrival of a competitor to the already famous ChatGPT. And not just anyone. In a blog post released today, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, announced the launch of his own AI-powered search tool.

His name: Bard. And unlike ChatGPT, which works with data up to 2021, Google’s tool will be more dynamic, drawing on data from the web “to deliver high-quality, up-to-date answers.”

The software will allow users to ask a question in the search bar through a separate tool and receive a detailed answer, in the same way as ChatGPT.

A beta version to start

However, Google’s technology will not be available to the general public for several weeks. The American company wants to make sure that the model works and does not present any risk before extending it to all users.

Another detail: the artificial intelligence will initially only be available in English. However, this is not the first time that Google has launched an artificial intelligence chatbot. In 2020, the company internally launched Meena, an intelligent chatbot, but soon abandoned the project.

Google now hopes to compete with ChatGPT in the long term. The OpenAI chatbot has become the fastest growing application of all time, surpassing the milestone of 100 million monthly active users in January 2023.
