Twitter: How to prevent the default display of recommendations

The Twitter app now has the option to remember your viewing preferences. Until now, users were forced to see recommendations every time they logged in.

Twitter will (finally) let you see posts from people you follow. At the beginning of the year, the social network reviewed the design of its screen. Now, a tab system allows you to intuitively switch between a feed generated by the platform’s algorithm to recommend posts and a feed that only includes accounts followed by a user.

preference preservation

The only problem, the introduction of this new screen showed by default the recommended publications. Every time the app was opened, a user was forced to switch tabs to take advantage of their personal thread. From now on, this obligatory gesture is over.

This feature has been highly requested by Twitter users. The web version of the social network has already implemented this practice since the end of January. But it is a novelty in applications.

Problems with iOS apps

Thus, when a user leaves the Twitter web or application, they will find the same tab when they open the web or mobile version of the social network again. Choosing display preferences is now a thing of the past.

At least for web users or Android smartphone owners. The Tech&Co editorial team noted that the new tab does not yet appear in the iOS version of the app. And this, despite the statements of the Twitter Support account.

For these owners of an iPhone or an iPad, the use of the choice of display preferences is a must to overcome the recommendation thread of Twitter. To do this, you need to click on the “stars” icon present at the top right of the app. It is then proposed to opt for recommendations with the “For you” option or for account publications followed by selecting “The most recent”. This choice is saved for future connections.
