It was at the time an unprecedented decision made by the Meta group as well as other social networks. Temporarily ban Donald Trump after the events that occurred at the Capitol on January 6, 2021. The Facebook and Instagram accounts were then suspended, preventing the former US president from continuing to spill messages from him throughout the day.
The suspension applied by Meta was for a period of two years from the date of the initial suspension. Mark Zuckerberg’s group has therefore restored the two accounts of Donald Trump, as he announced a few days ago. “We don’t want to hinder open, public and democratic debate on Meta platforms, especially in the context of elections like the one in the United States,” said Nick Clegg, Meta’s president of international affairs.
Still no tweet since November
However, it is likely that this return to social networks will be gradual. For now, the former president has yet to post on Facebook or Instagram. Like on Twitter. On November 20, Elon Musk called out to the people and finally reinstated Donald Trump’s account. However, the former president has not published any message on the platform since the replacement of his account.
Because Donald Trump is still faced with a dilemma: find his large audience of yesteryear and his hundreds of millions of followers or honor his commitments to his social network Truth Social. Donald Trump has promised investors to publish his posts on Truth Social exclusively for six hours. And a return of the president on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook could definitely hurt Truth Social, where he is followed by “only” 4 million people.
