Like in a bad thriller: after having completed their work, the Twitter engineers in charge of straightening out the finances of the social network were fired by the intractable Elon Musk. Among the dozens of laid off employees is Esther Crawford, a product manager, who specially designed the Twitter Blue subscription program.
Actually, it’s almost the entire product team that stormed the door this weekend, says The Verge, a sign that Elon Musk may be preparing a strategic level shift for Twitter, with his subscription far from a success.
The dismissal of Esther Crawford is all the more sudden since she was one of the most loyal directives to the boss, even appearing in a sleeping bag, on the floor of the headquarters, to show her commitment.
In a message posted on Twitter, however, he assumed his full commitment to the company.
These new layoffs affect several dozen people, although Elon Musk was supposed to end the cuts. Determined to financially revive a platform that has never been able to make money, the billionaire had bet everything on his subscription to Twitter Blue, which has yet to find his audience.
