The launch window for France Identity, set for the first quarter of 2023, seems compromised. The request for the dematerialization of the national identity document has been in testing since last year. If Android users were able to access it from May, iPhone owners had to wait a bit longer. With the key, NFC communication problems, indicates Franceinfo.
Since August 2021, French identity cards have included an electronic chip. Thus, they can send information such as a person’s last name, first name, height, or address via NFC. It is this function that the France Identity application uses to integrate your personal data.
An extended testing phase
The only problem, the last three generations of Apple phones (iPhone 12, 13 and 14) have erratic behavior when capturing information from the new identity card, points out the public radio site. While the operation may be instantaneous, in some cases it may need to be repeated multiple times before working.
“This issue is under investigation with Apple,” reads a note related to the test version of the app. The National Information Systems Security Agency (Anssi) is still verifying the source code of the application. If this step is imperative before a possible exit from France Identity, this setback risks extending the duration of the test phases.
20,000 testers are expected to use the France Identity app. But so far, only 5,000 people, evenly divided between Android and iOS system owners, have been able to access it.
