“Debit declined”: a scam wants you to believe that your Navigo account is suspended

For those who live in Ile-de-France, the end of the month is usually the time to top up your Navigo card. This is also a good time for online scams.

For monthly subscribers of the Navigo card, it’s time to top up. February obliges, the date arrives a little faster than expected since the month has only 28 days. Therefore, it is this Monday or Tuesday that you should think about renewing your package.

And scammers know this very well, since it is also during this period that spam arrives in mailboxes or by SMS. The Signal-Arnaques site also warns of a new wave of phishing attempts.

The technique is classic, but Navigo’s setbacks at the beginning of the year could catch some users: an email or SMS warning that the subscription is suspended due to a payment problem. The link leads to a fake site, intended to retrieve all your personal data.

Obviously, this usually ends up asking for your bank details. Therefore, it is necessary to be especially careful when checking the address of the email sent or the phone number of the SMS (if it starts with 06 or 07, it is better to be careful).

In early January, Navigo experienced an error that resulted in thousands of debits made in error. Injured users had been reimbursed.
