No League of Legendsof valorant or of rainbow six. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has released the list of events that will take place during the Olympic Games of Video Games (Olympic Esport Series). The event will take place from June 22 to 25 in Singapore. But the selected games will not differ much from the traditional sports of the classical Olympics.
Two French games between the events.
Olympic Esport Series is based on the collaboration between international sports federations and video game publishers. In this context, nine disciplines have been selected for athletes to compete.
Events will count as follows: Archery in the mobile game tic tac toe arcbaseball in WBSC eBaseball: Power Proschess on the online platform chess.com, cycling on the simulator Zwift (which involves physically pedaling to advance in the game), dancing to the rhythm of the game just dance (developed and published by the French Ubisoft), navigating the French simulator virtual regattatennis in mobile game tennis clashtaekwondo in virtual taekwondo (which reproduces the players’ gestures using sensors) and motorsports in the famous grand tourism.
Regulars of sports competitions will be surprised by the presence of a mobile game, but above all by the absence of titles that are mostly represented in esports. As the Engadget site points out, there won’t be any tests related to any first-person shooter, with a fighting game (like tekken EITHER Street Fighter) or a strategy game.
Physical tests
Especially since taekwondo and cycling will put physical abilities to the test. Like virtual taekwondothe game Zwift confronts players with a true sporting challenge. If the first reproduces the movements of the wrestler, the second places the participants on a very real bike. The route scrolls on a screen, but the effort required is adapted to the difficulty of the route taken.
There are many similarities between the actual Olympic Games events and the events selected by the IOC. Thus, it only denotes motoring. If Gran Turismo is undoubtedly the most popular title in the selection, motorsports has not been part of the Olympic events for many years.
Sports whose “performance depends essentially on mechanical propulsion” were banned by the Olympic charter in 1908. Almost a century later, the ban was lifted in 2007, recalls the AutoMoto site. From now on, motorsport could even become an official Olympic event again.
