Activision takeover bid: by offering its licenses, Microsoft could satisfy the European authority

The European competition authority would be ready to approve Activision’s takeover bid by Microsoft. This follows the group’s proposal to offer its licenses on other game consoles.

Recent proposals by Microsoft to appease competition authorities around the world have reportedly paid off. The group tries to acquire Activision Blizzard King, but to avoid a dominant position, it continues the promises. And it seems to work. According to Reuters, European regulators would be ready to accept the merger.

Last week, Microsoft signed a contract with Nintendo. For ten years, the games obligations, Activision’s flagship license, will be available on Switch, the latest console from the Japanese manufacturer. In the process, Brad Smith, president of Microsoft, announced that his Xbox games will be available on Nvidia’s cloud gaming service.

Decision expected on April 25

According to information from Reuters, the European Commission is due to issue a final opinion on Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision on April 25. Three people familiar with the case told the British agency that the competition authority should approve the acquisition.

The only downside is that no agreement has yet been reached with Microsoft’s main competitor. For now, Sony continues to appear as the big loser of this merger. However, the American giant wishes to offer the same treatment to the manufacturer of the PlayStation as to other companies in the sector.

The acceptance of the Activision takeover by the European authorities would be a crucial step for Microsoft. But it shouldn’t make it easy to buy so far. The British regulator has already expressed skepticism about the promises of the computer giant. According to him, the games obligations it couldn’t work properly on Nintendo Switch, which made Microsoft’s proposal less impactful.
