The quality of photos and videos is often reduced on WhatsApp because the app compresses them by default to save data and storage space. However, it is quite possible to get rid of this penalty to share these media in its original resolution. Tech&Co presents four alternatives to Android.
Send the photo as a document
It is possible to send uncompressed images and videos if you send them as a document. To do this, you need to choose “Document” instead of “Gallery” after clicking the attachment icon in the chat window.
- Go to the WhatsApp application and open the conversation in which you want to share an uncompressed photo
- Tap the clip icon to send an attachment
- Select the “Document” icon
- Click “Browse Other Documents”
- Select “Images” to isolate only this type of content and select the photos you want to send
- Tap the green arrow at the bottom right to send the photo as a document
Enable “Best Quality”
Warning: If the photos sent are of better quality by enabling this option, they also take longer to load and consume more data and storage space.
- Tap on the three dots at the top right and then on the “Settings” menu
- Go to the “Data usage and storage” tab
- Select “Photo Upload Quality”
- Choose “Best Quality”
Create a file in Zip format
If you have multiple photos to send at once, put them together in a Zip file. This will reduce its size while maintaining its initial level of resolution.
Many apps, available on the Play Store or AppStore, make it easy to do this. Once sent, your recipient only has to download an application to unzip the photos and save them on their preferred medium (smartphone, computer, tablet, etc.).
Share a link with your interlocutor
Some services allow you to send photo and video content on WhatsApp simply by providing a link to your interlocutor. This is particularly the case with the Google Photos app.
- Go to Google Photos and select “Share” from the menu at the bottom of the screen
- Choose the “Create a Shared Album” category at the top left of the screen
- Give your album a title, and then select the photos to transfer. Then click “Share”
- Click on the WhatsApp icon in the “Share with app” menu
- Tap the “Create Link” tab.
- A link is generated and you switch to the WhatsApp interface that offers you to choose the recipient of the link. Click on the green arrow at the bottom right to validate your choice.
Surely you have already noticed: the camera that WhatsApp includes does not allow you to take good photos. Also, simply avoid using and submitting content through this channel.
