Temperature, heart rate: Apple AirPods could soon become a health tool

Apple could integrate health features into its Airpods by 2025. The company had already thought about sensors to detect temperature, heart rate, or sweat.

AirPods could integrate health functions by 2025. In the latest edition of his “Power on” newsletter, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman states that the US company could “update AirPods to become a health tool within one or two years” and have “the possibility of obtaining any hearing data,” reports The Verge.

Apple has already added several hearing-related features to its Airpods. This is the case with the Live Listen and Conversation Boost functions, which allow you to hear the other party better during a conversation, for example, if you are on the other side of the room or when the environment is noisy.

But these features are not yet approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and are not intended to replace hearing aids, says Mark Gurman.

What’s new?

In 2021, the analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had already stated that Apple wanted to add biometric health monitoring capabilities to future AirPods models, recalls the American site MacRumors.

According to an Apple patent, it was a headphone-based fitness monitoring system that incorporates an advanced biometric sensor to detect physiological metrics like temperature, heart rate, sweat levels, and more through skin contact. and through built-in motion sensors.

According to the Wall Street Journal, in 2021 Apple also planned to integrate sensors to track the user’s position, which would allow, for example, to know if they are standing upright throughout the day to avoid back problems.
