Wish makes a surprise return to Google

The Wish e-commerce site is once again visible in Google searches. The DGCCRF informed the web giant that Wish was no longer subject to sanctions.

Cheap, but potentially dangerous products. This was what led the General Directorate for Consumption, Competition and Fraud Prevention (DGCCRF), under the Ministry of Economy, to request the exclusion of the Wish online sales site at the end of 2021. A decision validated in October 2022 by the Constitutional Council.

However, the site has returned to search engines, indicates the Politico site. Therefore, the online marketplace can once again be found by a simple search on Google, Bing, or even Qwant. The same goes for Google’s app store, Play Store.

The DGCCRF will remain “very attentive”

It is only “after more than a year of exchange with Wish, regarding the commitments produced” by the site that the decision of the DGCCRF was registered, specifies the cabinet of Olivia Grégoire, the Delegate Minister in charge of SMEs , Commerce, Crafts and Tourism, to Politician.

According to information from Tech&Co, the DGCCRF’s request to the web giants to restore all access to Wish is not accompanied by any explanation. At the moment, the Wish app is not back on the App Store yet. Contacted, Apple has yet to respond.

Bruno Le Maire became involved in the case by threatening ban wish siteso penalize search engines do not apply the market foreclosure. The office of the Minister of Economy clarifies with Tech&Co that today “there is no longer any reason to reject the reference” of the site.

In November 2021, a DGCCRF report noted the presence of dangerous and non-compliant products on the “Wish.com” site. As of now, the market has put withdrawal and recovery procedures in place. The company also agrees to limit the sale of similar products to items recognized as non-compliant and dangerous. The office of the Delegate Minister of Commerce assured Politico that the DGCCRF will remain “very attentive” to the fulfillment of these promises.

This decision comes when the online sales site was fined three million euros on Friday, March 10. The company’s deceptive commercial practices, in particular its false discounts, have been sanctioned by the Criminal Court of Paris. The site’s founder and former manager, Peter Szulczewski, was fined 250,000 euros.
