Cloud gaming to the rescue of Nintendo Switch to run Call of Duty games

As part of its acquisition of Activision, Microsoft has reached an agreement with Boosteroid and Ubitus. Both companies offer cloud gaming solutions.

In the midst of an attempt to take over Activision, Microsoft announced a few days ago the arrival of its video games on Nintendo Switch. This listing includes titles from the Call of Duty franchise. At least if regulators allow the computer giant to acquire the Activision Blizzard King group. But the British competition authority has expressed doubts about the ability of the Japanese console to run the famous series of shooting games.

That’s why Microsoft has pulled a new trick up its sleeve. After a first agreement with Nintendo, followed by a second with Nvidia, the American group has secured two new partners for ten years: the Boosteroid platform and the Ubitus solution provider, reports the American site The Verge. These two companies are protagonists of cloud gaming, a technology that allows access to a game through a simple Internet connection.

kill two cloud games

These new collaborations owe nothing to chance. In its report on February 8 justifying its rejection of the Microsoft-Activision merger, the British market regulator pointed out two arguments, among others. First of all, the technical limitations of the Nintendo Switch would not allow it to offer an experience similar to that of the PlayStation or Xbox consoles. The authority then lamented that lesser-known gamers could be hurt by this acquisition, particularly those in cloud gaming, citing Boosteroid.

Microsoft thus kills two birds with one stone. With Boosteroid, you ensure some fairness by offering your games on an unknown platform in the cloud gaming offer. With Ubitus, it opens the door to a Nintendo Switch experience similar to that of competing consoles, again thanks to cloud gaming.

In the past, Ubitus has allowed players to enjoy the Control title on Nintendo Switch. This was also the case with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and the old Resident Evil games, recalls the specialized site MyNintendoNews.

The UK competition authority has yet to react to these new Microsoft announcements. For its part, the European regulator had already indicated that it was inclined to accept the merger of the two giants.
