The number of novelties that the iPhone 14 presents has left some Apple fans hungry, to the point that it has been widely compared to the iPhone 13. But this model has an important feature, which should not have everything mentioned by the Apple brand. . : It is the most easily repairable iPhone model since the iPhone 7, according to the specialized site iFixit.
This remark does not refer to the Pro and Pro Max models, but only to the standard iPhone 14s, revealed by Apple during its annual keynote. They benefit from a completely revised internal design: the device can no longer only be opened from the front, but also from the back. The screen and back glass are held in place with the same two screws and a glue that’s easier to remove than was used on previous models.
Previously impossible repairs
By choosing to open the iPhone from the front, as it has been doing since the iPhone 5, Apple made it easier to change the battery and, above all, the screen, but it made changing the rear glass of the phone very complex. This operation has even become completely impossible for users of the iPhone 8, which introduced a new glass.
The simplest method involved removing more or less all of the phone’s internal components, using a laser to spray the glue, and then breaking and cutting the glass with specific, dangerous tools.
To fix the iPhone 14, none of that. This design change is even more impressive because it brought with it many additional limitations. Two openings means, for example, double the surfaces to be waterproofed. The glued-on battery and rear glass also helped with shock absorption, which Apple compensated for by putting a new chassis between the screen and components.
Therefore, the iFixit site gave the iPhone 14 a repairability score of 7 out of 10. The score given by Apple, as every manufacturer must do since January 2022 with the anti-waste law, is almost identical with 6.9 out of 10. .
