If your tweet disappeared without you deleting it, don’t worry: you’re not alone. It is normal, or almost. For several days, dozens of Twitter users have reported that their tweets have been deleted without their consent and for no apparent reason.
Several tweets related to the political situation in France and the pension reform, for example, have been deleted as if by magic. Some might then believe in censorship by Twitter, but in reality, other tweets not related to the reform, as well as tweets from other countries, have been affected by the same errors.
regular latencies
In theory, Twitter can remove a tweet, but only if it violates the platform’s rules. Not to mention that with each problematic tweet, Twitter usually notifies the Internet user to warn him of his fault. This is not the case in the various examples found on the social network, where a simple message appears indicating that the tweet is no longer available or has been deleted.
Some netizens, however, claim that this problem could be related to geolocation. Using a VPN, an Internet user, for example, demonstrated that by changing his location, a tweet considered deleted in one place could reappear in another.
These problems could be related to the closure of one of Twitter’s data centers located in Sacramento a few weeks ago. This closure has since generated many latencies in the operation of the social network according to the Platformer medium.
Sharing truncated tweets
Another recently reported issue on Twitter worldwide: truncated display of tweet actions in third-party apps like iMessage, WhatsApp, or Slack. Once a user shared a tweet, a preview of the post would appear in the conversation. A simple “Tweet/Twitter” bubble is now displayed.
The platforms themselves are unaware of the reason for this diluted screen. On Twitter, the Slack account indicated in particular that it does not know if and when the issue will be resolved.
More trouble to come?
Other minor problems have also been identified by users: the disappearance of labels on photos where people were identified, or even the disappearance of the Twitter Ads function.
Difficult today to know what is happening on Twitter. When the press is answered with a “poop emoji” to each request for information, it is impossible to obtain explanations about the multiple bugs that have affected the platform for several days. And with mass layoffs affecting all services, including moderation or engineering, these dysfunctions could be further amplified thereafter.
