“We pass for idiots”: Seb La Frite regrets having signed the forum on the regulation of influencers

The youtuber, a signatory to a forum around the proposed law that regulates the sector, explains “being had”.

Published in the JDD on March 25, a forum of 150 influencers, written by Umicc (a group of influence agencies) asked the deputies not to “break the virtuous model” of the sector. A text released a few hours before the opening of the debates around a bill aimed at regulating the work of influencers. But some signatories quickly distanced themselves from the text.

Like other social media stars before him, starting with Squeezie, he regrets pasting his name into the text, without actually reading it. A platform that, in his eyes, could wrongly suggest that they fear being regulated.

A misunderstood platform?

“When you look at the law, everything is ‘fine.’ It makes us seem a bit like people against what is going to be done, when we are in favor of it. They sold us the text as something that would create a nuance between content creators and influencers in Dubai”, specifies Seb La Frite, who adds “we were all taken equally”.

If the platform intends to warn the deputies, but also to remind the seriousness of a large part of the influencers, the Umicc assures that it was misinterpreted. On March 27, the federation of influencer agencies assured that it simply wanted to “educate about the profession of creator”, assuring that it is not opposed to the text itself.

As a reminder, the bill includes new rules for Instagram or TikTok stars, for example, banning cosmetic surgery ads or imposing transparency on the use of beauty filters in the context of commercial posts.

The fight against scams should also be strengthened, with the creation of around fifteen positions within the DGCCRF, dedicated solely to scams linked to influential people. The text should also allow the courts to pronounce a ban on practicing in case of abuse, with the key to delete accounts on social networks.
