This is an unexpected novelty. Known for its instant cameras that have been in style for over 80 years, Polaroid is changing its tune. The American brand introduced connected speakers on Wednesday.
Here is the range of Music Full Color products with retro and colorful lines that recall the aesthetics of Polaroid products. A surprise announcement, far from the photographic customs that made Polaroid famous. Because this is not about instant photos in any form. The brand launches four Bluetooth speakers:
- Polaroid P1 compact and easy to carry
- Polaroid P2, a small SUV with two good caliber speakers
- Polaroid P3 that reproduces the boombox format of yesteryear
- Polaroid P4, the largest of the family and the most powerful.
Additional speakers and radio
Each speaker has a red power button reminiscent of the brand’s camera shutter. There’s a volume wheel, as well as buttons for pairing a smartphone or other Bluetooth-enabled device to go to the next or previous song, as well as two buttons that work with the downloadable Polaroid Music app (iOS and Android) to access to your favorites and radios.
Because Polaroid Music will not only be a range of speakers, but also the addition of an ‘experimental music’ service called Polaroid Radio. And by pressing the dedicated button, you can switch the analog dial on the front from one station to another, without using your smartphone. Therefore, each speaker can work without a connected device.
The brand also offers five free, ad-free stations designed by artists, DJs and audio creators who have developed their playlists. A complementary musical proposal that is also found on Sonos with its Sonos Radio that offers both a station designed by Thom Yorke (Radiohead) with programs and talks, as well as stations designed by the brand’s audio specialists.
Launched at the same time as the Polaroid Music range, Polaroid Radio will be available on the dedicated website and through the Polaroid Music app in France, the US, Canada, the UK, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Portugal and Austria.
Price and availability of Polaroid speakers
All speakers are available in black, blue, red, yellow, orange, green, and black on the Polaroid website and at partner stores. The P1 Music Player is advertised at €59.99, the P2 Music Player at €129.99. The P3 Music Player will be sold at 189.99 euros and the P4 Music Player at 289.99 euros. These last two models are also available in grey, exclusively on the brand’s website.
