How to convince young people to save your business? This is the question asked by the companies Lime, Dott and Tier, the three operators of self-service electric scooters. This Sunday, April 2, the Paris City Council is organizing a vote so that Parisians can vote for or against the ban on self-service scooters in September 2023.
Over the past few days, the three companies have been running multiple ads on TikTok and Instagram, made by influencers, to tip the ticket in their favor. An initiative that does not like the city of Paris.
some illegal ads
Another problem: some of the ads broadcast at the request of scooter operators are illegal. As Tech&Co saw on March 30, several of the most streamed sequences on TikTok do not display their commercial nature, misleading subscribers. A prohibited practice, recalled the DGCCRF last January.
Thus, an ad broadcast by the influencer Ethan Berrebi and which accumulates almost a million views encourages young TikTok users to vote on April 2 to “keep electric scooters” that some “stupidly” would like to ban. All this without any mention of commercial links with companies in the sector. A precision finally surfaced after exchanges between Tech & Co and the operator Lime, around 10:30 am on March 30.
With Tech & Co, the Lime operator claims to have asked the different influencers to report on the commercial nature of their publications.
“We have no control over the personal accounts of influencers: breaches have been observed and have been reported immediately,” says the company.
