Lithium batteries designed by Limatech soon in production phase

Limatech has just obtained certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency for its first lithium battery production line.

“Lithium is three times lighter than old batteries,” explains Florence Robin, co-founder and president of Limatech, a guest at Tech&Co. The company is now entering the production phase.

Lithium appears as a “revolution”. “In the automobile, lithium has replaced old technologies. But not yet in aeronautics. Lead or nickel-cadmium is still used”, develops Florence Robin. Therefore, Limatech brings this solution to the field of aeronautics and defense. “At Limatech, we like to say that the battery works, flies, and then communicates.”

Limatech carried out its first ground tests in helicopters and obtained an “exceptional” result. “We are 150 times better in terms of power density compared to other batteries. To get an idea: the power density of this lithium battery allows 13 consecutive starts against 3 for very old batteries”.

Above all, Limatech has just obtained the PART 21G certification issued by the European Aviation Safety Agency, which allows it to scale with a plant that represents an investment of 10 million euros. Limatech also intends to expand its teams, up to 40 people shortly.

Therefore, the factory with this production line will allow Limatech to start producing and selling its batteries. “The ultimate goal is to be able to provide a lithium battery for an old battery,” continues the co-founder.

Limatech is also exploring a second round, “made possible by our promising results, and therefore benefiting other sectors, by finding the right partner to tackle other markets.”

Limatech would like to interest other investment funds that are not specialized in aeronautics, but of the “tech or software” type.
