Read and write. From Notea to Amazon’s Kindle Scribe, the trend for versatile e-readers is spreading. Rakuten has for this its Kobo Elipsa, a model equipped with a 10.3-inch E Ink touchscreen that is compatible with the Kobo Stylus stylus.
It returns in a new version, the Kobo Elipsa 2E, more efficient, more powerful and also more ecological (made from recycled plastic). Rakuten Kobo explains that reading quality has been significantly improved to maintain its printed book appearance thanks to digital ink technology.
Bigger, more storage
The reader offers the usual features of its range, access to a wide catalog of digital books and audiobooks to buy, an anti-glare screen and has technology to reduce visual fatigue by adapting its lighting according to the time of day. All this with a significant storage space of 32 GB and an announced autonomy of several weeks per charge.
Added to this is compatibility with the Kobo Stylus 2, a versatile and rechargeable USB-C stylus that allows you to write, draw, annotate your digital books and PDF files, but also highlight, erase, transform your handwriting into text in one click. It will then be possible to group your notes in notebooks, organize them and export them to compatible cloud services (Kobo Cloud, Dropbox and soon Google Drive). The “My Notebooks” section also allows you to search your notes by keywords. It is also possible to subscribe to Readwise to synchronize your notes with tools like Roam, Evernote, Notion…
The Stylus 2 magnetizes (not too strongly) to the top or stores to the side of the tablet by adding the 97% recycled plastic SleepCover (sold separately). This allows you to put the reader on standby as soon as you close the case.
Audiobook support
The Kobo Elipsa 2E connects via Wi-Fi to work and is Bluetooth compatible for pairing headsets or headphones to enjoy audiobooks.
We were able to quickly take control of the Kobo Elipsa 2E for a first close-up. Despite its large size (193 x 227 x 7.5mm), it holds up quite well and its weight (390g) is well distributed. The coating on the back prevents it from slipping off and gives it an elegant finished effect. E Ink technology also makes it easy to read and pages turn smooth and easy. Maybe a little too much. When we started, we realized that we shouldn’t press too hard on the screen with our hand, which reacted quickly thinking that we wanted to change the page or screen area. To be seen in use.
