Sony continues to bet on its DualSense command. After a version that incorporates paddles on the back, the manufacturer of PlayStation 5 imagines being able to transmit the heat of a game scene through the player’s hands. At the end of March, the company filed a patent in this regard.
Discovered by the specialized site Exputer, and broadcast by the American medium Kotaku, this novelty aims to “enrich the haptic experiences” of the PS5 controller, the patent states. It is about integrating a more flexible plastic -with elastic capacities- into the object during its design to make it malleable and thus control its shape.
Gas bags and Peltier effect
According to the patent details, the sensors would allow the controller to detect when it is touched, twisted, pressed, pinched, squashed or even rubbed. Offering so many possibilities for video game developers.
To control deformation, gas bags could be placed inside the controller. The heat variations would be caused by the Peltier effect, which is based on the presence of an electric current to raise or lower the temperature of an object.
