New Twitter bug causes your private tweets to be shown to all users

The “Circle” functionality normally allows tweeting to chosen users in the upstream direction. But a new Twitter bug appears to broadcast these messages to all followers.

Since Elon Musk took the reins of Twitter, it has been a day, a novelty but also a day, a bug. Reported by many users, French and foreign, a malfunction of the social network seems to make tweets posted in “Twitter Circles” appear as normal tweets.

Introduced in March 2022, “Twitter Circles” allow users to post messages to a portion of their loved ones, chosen earlier in the app’s settings. Therefore, tweets are considered private, except that some have been able to find out in recent days that people “like” these tweets, when they are not part of their circle.

algorithm problem

As reported by the media Observers, it seems that the Twitter algorithm is the cause of this new problem. This would not be able to distinguish normal tweets from private tweets and would therefore allow both to be spread across users’ feeds, particularly in the “For You” tab, which selects the best tweets for each person.

Please note that this malfunction only affects tweets posted via “Twitter Circles” and not tweets posted by private accounts. However, it is important to be careful not to post harmful messages on the social network.

With the numerous dismissals carried out by Elon Musk, the areas of security, moderation or innovation have been drastically deteriorated, thus increasing breakdowns, bugs and other problems related to the perpetual innovations sought by the kingpin of the social network.
