In your wallet, your credit card isn’t the only card hackers are eyeing. Now, supermarket loyalty cards are also stolen and resold. In reality, it is the accounts that are stolen and then resold on social networks, but above all on the dark web.
The specialized site Zataz.com discovered that it was very easy to buy Auchan or Carrefour accounts, whose main advantage is presenting sometimes well-stocked jars.
In fact, some major brands offer discounts on products, transformed into purchase vouchers that can be accumulated in loyalty accounts. Customers can use their kitty when shopping.
poorly protected accounts
Pirates often sell these boats for half the amount they contain. “Of course, you can empty multiple accounts on the same Auchan, while staying reasonable at the very least,” explains one hacker. Last week, a woman was arrested after embezzling more than 4,000 euros accumulating illegally bought jackpots.
Obviously, the theft technique usually goes through a classic phishing: an email asking to fill in your identification numbers. Especially since these loyalty accounts are not necessarily as protected as they should be.
As Zataz.com reminds us, the best way to protect yourself is to change the password associated with your account and make it different from your other passwords.
