The government seems to have made fighting internet scams and bad behavior by influencers one of its main goals. And he decided to use one of the supposedly dissuasive weapons of the General Directorate for Competition, Consumption and Fraud Repression (DGCCRF): “name and shame”.
This practice consists of publicly pointing the finger at people or companies that do not comply with the legislation, in order to warn the general public. guest in France News This May 3, the Minister of Economy, Bruno Le Maire, warned thus: “We will give the names of the influencers who have not respected the rules in the coming days.”
This decision follows the controls carried out in recent months by the DGCCRF. According to Bruno Le Maire, the authority reviewed 50 influencer websites in the first quarter of 2023, “three times more than in normal years,” and detected 30 breaches.
In a press release from the ministry and the DGCCRF, it is specified in particular that the crimes relate to the fact that none of these 30 influencers “was transparent as to the commercial nature of their approach and the identity of the person on behalf which he was acting”.
In the coming days, a list of names will be revealed. A way according to the Minister of Economy to start implementing the bill that regulates influencers approved in the Assembly a few weeks ago. “I also want influencers who do great work, who are dynamic and creative, to be protected against scams from other influencers who create a bad reputation for an activity that is taking place in France.”
The sectoral regulation bill must, however, continue on its parliamentary path, with a presentation to the Senate Economic Affairs Committee this Wednesday, May 3, and a vote scheduled for May 9.
