The opinions that Internet users leave on Google contribute to a great extent to enlighten a consumer about the quality of a product or service. However, this feature can quickly become a reviewer’s nightmare when it comes to unwarranted malicious messages.
A phenomenon denounced, on May 2, by the Union of School Directors and Rectors who complained about the multiplication of negative reviews on Google posted against schools in France. A growing phenomenon according to this organization, which also specified that it was very difficult to delete offending publications. In fact, if this process may seem complicated, it is possible to remove these reviews from Google.
Ask Google to remove the negative review
This is the simplest method. You can report a review that you think is inappropriate to Google for removal. You will have to justify your request, then, according to certain criteria (if the opinion is spam, rude or incitement to hate…) the Google moderators will determine whether or not it can stay online.
Please note that the comment is not guaranteed to be removed and that the waiting period between a report and the possible removal of the comment can be up to several months. That’s why:
- Click on the three dots next to the relevant review
- Click “Report Review”
Send a message to the reviewer
If requesting the removal of a review that has not been written requires asking Google, an Internet user can easily remove a comment they author.
Also, it might be a good idea to try to contact the person behind the review you want to remove and ask them directly to remove or edit it. If you have his first and last name, social media, Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn are great tools for finding him.
