Eléonore Caroit (Renaissance) will she continue to be a deputy? During the partial legislative elections of April 1 and 15, she was elected deputy for the second constituency of French residents abroad. But these results are questioned by her opponent Yves Thorailler (¡Reconquista!), as reported by L’Informé.
Already canceled by the Constitutional Council in January, this election is again the subject of text messages not received in the context of electronic voting. According to the request submitted by Yves Thorailler, consulted by L’Informé, thousands of voters would not have been able to cast their vote, by this means acclaimed by the French abroad.
4,724 disenfranchised voters
The message contains a password that must be associated with an identifier received by email in order to proceed with the electronic vote. But many phone numbers were entered incorrectly: some have too many digits, others have the wrong area code.
In Argentina and Brazil alone, 4,724 people would have been prevented from voting. However, this figure is much higher than the difference in votes that separates Eléonore Caroit from Yves Thorailler, notes L’Informé.
To support his request, the candidate points to a report from the Electronic Voting Office (BVE). This document highlights the difficulties that this type of voting poses depending on the country, in particular to guarantee the correct reception of SMS by voters.
The Constitutional Council must rule on this complaint on an undetermined date. Three other appeals were issued in relation to these partial legislative elections.
