Health professionals using Doctolib will have to use their memory: appointment reasons and consultation reports for some have not been saved by the platform. The incident was revealed by the Doctolib teams through an email sent to the various practitioners involved, on May 3, and revealed by some on Twitter, including Dr. Jean-Jacques Fraslin.
The doctor explains to Tech&Co that a total of twenty patients in his practice are affected by this loss of data.
No data theft
Thus, for several hours on April 26 and 27, the medical observations entered in the patient files were not saved. However, Doctolib insures it with Tech&Co, it is in fact a loss and not a theft of data. This loss was caused by a technical error, resulting from the implementation of a new feature in the appointment management application.
Asked about the number of people affected by this technical incident, Doctolib indicates that only 1.3% of the physicians were victims of the technical bug, that is, 2,300 specialists, and therefore several thousand associated patients.
In his email, Doctolib specifies that the incident was corrected in less than an hour by the technical teams and invites the practitioners to re-enter the medical observations of the missing files. The company’s legal department also ensures that it is not obliged to report this incident to the CNIL since it is a loss of information that has not been registered anywhere and not a data theft. In fact, the commission requires companies, under the GDPR, to notify the authority in the event of a personal data breach.
