Artificial intelligence: The White House insists on the “moral” duty of actors in the field

Vice President Kamala Harris received the heads of various companies specializing in artificial intelligence at the White House.

US Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday reminded the heads of the major artificial intelligence companies, invited to the White House, that they have a “moral” duty to protect society from the potential dangers of this great technology.

A dangerous potential

The vice president, who met at the White House with the heads of Google, Microsoft, OpenAi and Anthropic, said AI has the “potential to improve people’s lives and address some of society’s biggest challenges.”

“But at the same time,” the Democrat warned, “AI has the potential to dramatically increase safety and security risks, reduce civil rights and privacy, and undermine public trust and faith in democracy.”

The vice president said that she and President Joe Biden, who moved quickly in the meeting, support “potential new regulations” and “new legislation.”
