Every game released by Don’t Nod is often a moment that fans of narrative games, poetic and melancholic atmospheres, and really strong visual identities are delighted to meet again. The studio behind games like Remember me, Life is strange, Vampyr and more recently Tell me why He has made a name for himself around the world with his strong stories and his ability to cover all kinds of social issues (coming of age, trans identity, life on the margins, life in wartime and dual nationality…).
The Parisian studio has a new pearl in its bag called Harmony: The Fall of Reverie which is announced from June 8 on PC and Nintendo Switch, on June 22 on PS5 and Xbox Series X⎜S. And to celebrate the news, Don’t Nod is allowing the most curious to discover the game all this weekend and until Sunday night May 21 for free on PC via Steam.
The opportunity to discover the beginning of the story of Polly, a young woman who returns to her native Mediterranean town of Altina in the hope of finding her mysteriously missing mother. And for that, the young woman relies on her gift of clairvoyance that allows her to be connected to a parallel world, Reverie. She then becomes Harmony, goddess and ferryman between her real world and this parallel world populated by divine creatures, the Aspirations (Glory, Truth, Bliss, Power, Bonds and Chaos).
Choose chaos or happiness
We got a first look at the demo that players can dive right into. Once again, the studio plays to its markers: consequential choices, the emotion of the story and its characters, a strong narrative. Polly becomes Harmonie, who must maintain her balance and choose the Aspiration that Reverie will administer, thus inspiring the humans of the other world. But she must also investigate to find her mother in a city where a strange corporation has seized power. Our decisions allow us to know if we will move towards chaos or happiness, if we want beings to weave ties between them or seek power.
Thanks to her gift of clairvoyance, the heroine evolves and the player sees the impact of her choices in a tree structure. And each important crossroads for the future of history materializes in a sequence visual novel in 2D that graphically reinforces the attractive side of the game and allows you to choose your route (with possible long-term consequences in the game).
If the beginning seems a bit strange, we get carried away by the dialogues that push us to make decisions, the colorful characters and the Aspirations that try to win favors.
