It’s time to get creative when choosing a new username. All Discord subscribers will be asked to change their username. In doubt, the end of the four-digit code, reports the specialized media the edge.
The goal is to make the gaming platform more standard and closer to how other networks work. All kinds of reasons are given. “Over the years, it has become difficult to quickly share your Discord username with another person if you have not memorized the four-digit code,” justifies the platform.
By default, the new display name will be the old username without the four-digit code, so friends will still recognize the profile. For example, PhiBi#8936 will become @PhiBi.
A transition of several months
Discord specifies that the first changes will occur in the coming weeks. “We will start notifying users when they can update their account with a new username,” Discord announces. They will then receive an invitation directly in the app with all the necessary instructions to make the change.
And Discord to clarify: “your old username will still work as an alias after the conversion process is complete, so old friends who don’t know your new username yet can keep adding you.”
The platform indicates that this transition will take place gradually over several months.
