Google reveals plans to integrate artificial intelligence into search engine

Google on Wednesday revealed plans to integrate more advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology into its search engine.

“We are at an exciting inflection point,” Sundar Pichai, chief executive of Google-owner Alphabet, said at a conference announcing plans to “reimagine all products, including search.”

As planned, more AI technology is coming to Gmail from Google with a “Help Me Type” option that will produce long replies to emails in seconds, and a photo tool called “Magic Editor” to auto-correct images.

Plans call for the AI transition to proceed cautiously with the search engine that serves as Google’s crown jewel.

Google’s new strategy for blending AI into search results will involve integrating conversations into search results and displaying information in a more “personal and human” way.

The change in the way Google’s search engine works comes three months after Microsoft’s Bing search engine began exploring technology similar to the one that powers the ChatGPT artificial intelligence chatbot, and is already testing its own chatbot named Bard.

That product, powered by a technology called generative AI that also powers ChatGPT, is only available to people accepted onto a waiting list, but Google announced today that Bard will be available to anyone interested in more than 180 countries and will start with Japanese and Korean. before adding 40 more languages.

The Google search engine, which for the last 20 years has been used to find information on the Internet, serves as the backbone of a digital advertising empire that has generated more than 220,000 million dollars (200,400 million euros) in revenue in 2022.
