YouTube tests ad blocker ban

If the test is conclusive, it will be essential to pay a subscription to the platform to get rid of the advertising.

As discontent among internet users increases as the online video platform imposes more and more ads, YouTube has ad blockers in its sights.

With the specialized site Bleeping Computer, a spokesperson for the streaming platform indicated that the company has just set up a test on a global scale to prevent the use of plug-ins such as AdBlock, which allows you to remove unwanted ads on the web.

First it was a user of the Reddit forum who discovered this new practice of the platform, owned by Google, and shared this YouTube warning through a screenshot:

Highlighting YouTube Premium

“Ad blockers are not allowed on YouTube. It sounds like you are using an ad blocker. Ads allow billions of users around the world to enjoy YouTube for free. You can subscribe to YouTube Premium to stop serving ads , and content creators will benefit from their registration,” says YouTube’s disclaimer.

As a reminder, YouTube Premium is the platform’s paid offering, which allows you to do without advertising, but also take advantage of an online music streaming service and watch videos offline.

At the moment, YouTube has not specified in which countries or on what scale this test was deployed. To remain free, the platform remunerates itself to a large extent through the advertising that users see.

But these ads, which were originally before the video, are now also at the heart of the video and can interrupt it at any time, and have multiplied over time.
