Reduction of delivery times for customers, but also savings for the online sales giant: in the United States, Amazon will show priority products from the region where its users are when they browse its catalog, report it Wall Street Journal.
Eight self-sufficient American regions
Amazon’s distribution network had grown considerably during the pandemic, with the boom in online sales: the American multinational now operates 1,000 stores in the United States, a number that has doubled in two years.
Where Amazon previously operated nationally, delivering to customers across the country, within a year the company established eight “self-sufficient” regions across the United States. Amazon does not move items out of these regions unless necessary, the official said. The most purchased products are now distributed throughout the country to be closer to customers.
76% of products ordered “locally”
On the site, articles that are closest to you geographically may appear at the top of search results.
Seventy-six percent of the products customers order already come from facilities in their region, up from 62% a year ago, Amazon said.
The distance parcourue for a similar colis is low (15%), slowing down as a result of the increase in transport costs, which does not amount to 2% in the first quarter of 2023 – against 14% during the same period last year.
To optimize its deliveries, Amazon also relies on artificial intelligence, CNBC also reveals. AI-based tools allow you to place your inventory as close to your customers as possible, or plan and map the most efficient routes taking the weather into account.
